I been wanting to do this to mine. ive got all the truck where I want it but I am trying to source out some zr2 front and rear diffs. if not is there any place that makes the re gear kits for the 7.5 rear axle and front I have the 3.43 gear with a g80. I want the powertrax locker as the g80 sucks in my opinion.

The Detroit was in the $5-600 range if I recall. It is a good time to install gears too, but remember, it's about double the work to set up new gears over re-using your gears. If you are planning 33s, it may be a thought to find a ZR2 rear axle(8.5"), I went through 2 sets of gears over the years in the stock 7.5" axle while running 33s. Gears for 33s, I'd recommend 4.56, same ratio I run, about 2100 rpm at 70mph.

So you saying i should go to a junk yard and pull a zr2 axle and redo the the gears with a locker and that would be the best for running 33s? Do you know how much a pick n pull type place would charge for the entire axle?

It's a shame to buy upgrades for an axle that you may not be happy with. That said, there are a lot of people that run 33" tires with the 7.5" and little issue, it really depends how tough you're going to be on it. For me it was towing and off-road abuse that killed them.
Around here I'd guess a ZR2 would be in the 300-500 range, cheaper if you find one private.

Okay i think im going to need to get a zr2 because i will be doing alot of offroading so you think a zr2 would hold up alot better for playin around in the mud and some light trails every once in awhile? thanks for useful information already

The 8.5" came originally in full size 1/4 and 1/2 ton full size vehicles as well as 3/4 ton front axles. They are certainly stout enough to handle a lot of abuse in the Blazers. It would also give you a couple more choices when it comes to a locker.
