Rocking side to side at highway speeds
Hello I have a 2002 blazer and just recently its starting to rock side to side when I hit a bump on the high way. Mine has always rode like a boat. When you hit a bump on the highway it would still bounce for a second or two after I hit it ( front to back). But the other day my friend was riding with me and mentioned how much it rocked side to side but I figured it was just the wind because it was storming out. But its definitely rocking side to side. What could be causing that? Anti roll bar going bad? It's got new shocks on it less than a year old. Any help would be appreciated!
My first thought would be shocks with your description. So now some questions:
What shocks did you put on?
Have you tested the shocks by pushing on the corners of the truck? Does is it bounce several time or bounce once and stop?
When you do this do you hear any noises?
You can look at the sway bar/anti roll bar and see if the rubber is bad or missing should be attached at the lower control arm. Do you have a roll bar? Some people remove them for extra suspension travel when off roading.

Thank you for the reply! I believe they are monroe but I could be wrong. They are yellow. I didnt have a chance to test it yet that's on the list for tomorrow. Is it supposed to bounce once or a few times? From what i could see the roll bar rubbers look good in the front couldn't really see the back because it's been raining the past 3 days and I had a good sweatshirt on so I couldnt crawl under it yet.

I did the shock test they all sounded normal except the front right and right rear. The front right sounded the like the gas shocks the hold open the back glass when i pushed on it. The right rear made a kind of a clicking noise but I think that was just my train horns rattling around. They all had the same amount of bounce in them went down came up then settled. Does that sound like a bad shock? Thank you so much for your help! Suspension is all new to me,I've mostly worked on engines.
Right now I have parked my ZR2 because my off road adventure used up the shocks and more importantly the rubber at the upper control arms is gone on both sides.
I am saving up to to the shocks, ball joints, upper and lower control arm busihings and the steeting box.
I am going to use Bilstein shocks like whats on it and at 210k miles they appear to be factory...which I doubt.
The ball joints are riveted in again an OEM trait again I doubt they are factory.
But the truck does have excessive roll and the control arm bumpers are hitting the lower the lower control arm.
Now have you checked the control arm bumpers? If they are missing the suspension can have more travel a shortened version is sold for off roading to get more suspension travel.
Based on what you're saying I am going to suspect you have an issue with the right (passenger side) shocks.. Find out what you have installed and check the body mounts also to see if they've deteriorated as well.

Shocks and sway bar links are the most likely culprits. If it's not your shocks and sway-bar links, then one other possible cause is a broken leaf in the leaf pack. I've seen the main leaf break at the centering hole, and just be held together by the pressure of the u-bolts and the weight of the truck.
