Run without CV Shafts and Joints
Hello All, Your opinion and knowledge would be appreciated. I am having alot of problems with CVs and Shafts. I am thinking about going to
a solid axel or replacing the stock Differential and Cv Shafts and Joints with Factory new or rebuilt. GM PARTS. I would like to lift the truck later.
Now your opinion, solid axel or factory parts replacement. I want to drive the truck for a while untill I make my mind up and save the money to buy.
Will it be ok to run on the hub bearings without the shafts and Cvs? I would not have the vibration and would not worry about slinging another shaft untill I decide on the new plan.
Thank You for your help!

it is NOT ok to run the hubs without axles because those axle ends hold the hub together, you CAN get some junk cvs and just run the threaded stub end in the hub without the rest of the axle though (requires boot and joint removal). as for lifting, depends on how high you want to go....

Yea what coolasice said. Go to the yard,or tear apart yours. you can either put it in a vice and beat the back end with a big hammer,or remove the outer boot, and dig into the grease pit and find a cotter pin and pull it out. the outer cv will fall off. stick it back in the hub and whalla. no cv's. been running mine like this for going on a year or 2. If you try running without the outer i doubt you'll make it out of your driveway.
