so my Spider gears blew out so i went to the junk yard to find a new one. I found a Frankenstein blazer with a 96 s10 motor and a early 90's body. the rear end was like new. No leaks, bearings tight, perfect gears. well i get it home clean it all up swapped my drum brakes to it as there brand new (master cylinders, shoes, spring kit). while it as apart i changed the axle seals just to be safe, cleaned it all up good and painted it. after all this work i put it under my truck today, make my sway bar work as this rear end nor did any other have one. well after we bleed the brakes bolt it all together new drop U-bolts. put the wheels one and.......

THE REAR END IS TOO NARROW the tires will rotate but there is absolutely NO clearance. My question is can i use spacers? how much safely? auto zone has 54mm wheel studs which is roughly .5 inches longer. so could i use .5" or even .75" spacers?

 

my open diff just wont cut it anymore. I literally blew one apart a week ago. so now I just don't know what ti use. for now i replaced the whole rear end for a quick fix. I thought a locker (G80) would be great but after reading i guess there really just junk. A spool would be great but how will that affect tire life and turning radius? The problem is i have a fully built 4l60e behind my jasper crate motor. when it shifts it leave patches

That sucks. Yea, you can use spacers to make it work.

 

I am a chevy guy but if you really want something bullet proof then start looking into a ford 9" rear end.

 

what do you guys think of adapters? like 2" (on each side) to make the width of the rear the same as the front. it looks goofy having my front wider than my rear.

 

yea i hear the ford 9 is amazingly strong. what do you think if the mini spool for a quick fix? full locked up posi no more 1 wheel peel

 

I have merged the two threads about your rear end trouble (somehow that doesn't sound right) since they both concerned the same issues and will be easier for folks to address.

I would not put a mini spool in your current 10 bolt. It will just be a waste of time and money. You will be breaking axles and finding all the other weak links.
