Weird noise one day and magically gone?
97 Blazer 2 door 4x4 183k
This is a first for me. I had this noise one day, and now its gone. The noise sounded like the loudest stick in a bike spoke. it changed with the speed. i thought at first it was something in my fan, like a belt or something. i found it was not motor related, because there is no noise at idle or when you rev it. The faster you drive, the faster and higher pitch the noise was..going really slow, it was a steady clicking....I popped it in 4hi and it went away. put it in 2hi and it came back a almost immediatly. put it in 4hi and it went away again, put it in 2hi and it never came back. i've been driving awhile and it hasn't come back. There was a small vibration feeling when i had the noise. from searching it sounded like a wheel bearing. I just had it in for inspection and it needs lower ball joints. i am replacing them and figured while i'm in that area i'll replace the hub assemblies as well.
The blazer seems to drive straight and true even at higher speeds. Any thoughts as to how i could have such a loud noise and all of a sudden its gone? when i had that noise , it didn't hinder the truck from driving in anyway i could feel... just very loud (like a stick in a spoke).
(did not notice if the noise went away if i turn left or right)
Thanks for any help.

RE: Weird noise one day and magically gone?
I have the SAME exact problem as you. It sounds like a playing card you put in your bike tire as a kid to make a cool sound. I put it in 4wd and the noise went away then in 2wd it came back. I took my front tires off looked everywhere and found nothing out of the ordinary. I just went and drove it and now the noise is gone. I have no clue what the problem is.
