4 ply tires and 6ply tires
I had to replace a tire about a month ago. I went and got one with the intent to get the rest after the taxs get back. In the mean time one of the other tires decided that it did not want to wait and started to split ( so the tire guy tells my wife). What I want to know if there is any truth to this statment that he told my wife.
"you are running 3 tires that are 4ply and one that is 6 ply you are not supposed to do that it will ruin the car."
So it it true that you should not run on different ply of tires? How about like 2 4ply in the front and 2 6ply on the back or other way around?
Thanks for the answers or comments in advance.

I dont see how it will ruin a vehicle, maybe some suspension components but I even doubt that will happen.
I do know that you aren't supposed to run radials on a car that was built for bias ply tires. But I do think your mechanic/tire guy is blowing smoke at you.

As long as the outside diameter of the tires is the same, the only trouble you'll have is handling issues, and possibly some suspension component wear...
All four tires should be the same brand/model/size... especially on a 4x4...

The number of plys refers to the side wall of a tire. The more plys the more laod it can handle. It is best to run 2 of tha same tires on the same axle and all four tires of the same size on a 4x4.
I run 2 ply sidewalls 3ply tread on the front of my silverado and 3 ply sidewalls 4 ply tread on the rear and it doesnt hurt anything, but like Hanr3 said, they same plies on the same axles.... FWIW, I run 3ply sidewalls and 5 ply tread on my blazer...lol
