Here is a tid bit of info that may help. DOT(Dept of Transp) says that it is illegal to place retreaded steer tires(your front tires) on commercial vehicles. I guess that it might have happened before when the vehicle is making a turn and the retread simply came off.

I for one have a strict policy when it comes to parts, whether new or used. If it's a safety related part, ie tires, brakes or whatever, I buy new. Anything else, I may go used.

When it comes to my family and others, I like to keep it safe.
