Default 88 s10 blazer transmission issue

I bought a 88 s10 blazer about a week ago a couple days after i bought it i noticed some atf on the ground so i checked the tranny flud it was low so i crawled under to see where the leak was comeing from. So the tranny was dry up at front but the tail section was a little wet it appeard that the transfer case was leaking so i cleand up all the fluid and started the truck to see if i could find the leak. Nothing so i checked transfer case fluid big mistake it was full really full. So the trans is loseing fluid and cant find the leak also the trans knocks when you put it in reverse and engine boughs down. Any ideas???

when the input seal cracks on the front of the transfer case all the transmission fluid goes into the transfer case. i think this has happened on almost every truck i ever owned. its probably a $5 part but you have to remove the transfer case to repair it

Correct, it's a lot of work for a cheap seal but repairing that will also prevent the trans fluid from getting sucked into the vacuum system if it has vacuum actuated 4wd. I'm new to the S10 so I don't know when it was mechanical and when it went vacuum/electric.

i think all the older styles had that vacuum switch on them for the front axle. i had a 83 s10 blazer and it had it

my 83 and 85 did have the lever in the floor for the transfercase though
