1988 s10 blazer egr removal
I am throwing code 32 and want to pull and clean or replace the egr. It appears to located on the back side of the motor below the air cleaner. What do I use to remove, seems like very tight quarters to work in. Thanks for the help!

Back of the engine??? What engine do you have?
I think you might not be looking at the EGR valve. My 93 4.3 came off with the removal of the intake tube, throttle body, and 2x10MM bolts and the tube from the exhaust manifold was a 15/16 I think...
Is it vaccum operated or electronic? If electronic you can test it by unhooking the plug from it and using your multimeter to measure the resistance (Ohms) through the valve while you maually operate the plunger inside.

I believe you have a 2.8L with a TBI fuel injection. It could be a 4.3L as they were introduced about that time. TBI engines (at least back then) didn;t use Linear EGR valves. I think the EGR is on the back of the engine and it just takes some patience to get it off. It won't be a Linear (electronic) EGR.

Sorry, forgot to put 4.3 engine. I've looked at the part online and it appears to be on the backside as I explained. Only appears to be 2 bolts and a vacuum line just can't seen to get a socket tween the egr and the bolts, perhaps patience and an open end wrench? Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

yes patience and a open wrench is about right, i just did a EGR on a 350 TBI yesterday, and found it alot easier to just remove the bolts on the TBI and swing it outta the way some. and a ratcheting wrench will become your best friend

Thanks for the info! It was just what I needed, taking off the throttle body gave me just enough room to get that damn egr out. It was a mechanical one so cleaned it up and put back on. No longer throwing the 32 code. Thanks again for the help!

Ok, 32 back on the dash. Pulled off the whole TBi & EGR again , used throttle body cleaner. Was a lot of carbon build up still. Would the fact the there is an exhaust leak throw code 32?

Exhaust leaks would normally trip the o2 sensor code, depending on where you leak is at.

That's what I thought but had to check. Pulled it all apart again, got her good with throttle body cleaner and after about 50 miles no code yet. Gotta see what happens after a trip to the eway though. Only drive her now on rainy days while the Goat is in the garage!
