Just picked up a 94 blazer 4x4. First off the insides of both front tires are worn and it likes to pull to the right. When I go around a turn over bumps it makes a big clunking knocking noise and sounds like its going to fall apart. I'm almost positive it needs ball joints, and if so what parts I need to buy.

 

If you can swing it financially at this time id suggest getting This Kit it will be well worth it in the long run.

 

Check your torsion bar mounts as well.

 

I jacked it up today but couldn't find anything loose or worn looking. I tried to rock the wheels and they wouldn't budge. I'm not sure on the torsion bar mounts, they are at the middle yes? if so they looked ok. The noise never happens when traveling strait, only when turning while hitting pot holes.

 

Along with a suspension check, you should also make sure your hood hinge bolts are snug and tug on the hood a bit to make sure it's not rattling.

I will also second the suggestion for the power performance steering kit. If you plan on keeping the truck for a long time, these parts are the best you can buy. Also, buying them all at once allows you to have the alignment done just once, instead of multiple times for multiple parts. It's almost a guarantee that these parts will either fail, or wear out enough to drive you crazy. Steering parts are one place where it's good to be proactive.

 

most likely your pitman arm or idler arm are going bad as i have the same problem. when you jack it up put the jack stands on the frame and turn the key in the ignition to the on position to unlock the steering wheel. then rock the wheels and see what kind of movement you get. another sign of bad idler/pitman arm is that there is more play in the steering wheel (usually more noticeable when it becomes worse. this is all if its not your ball joints as they cause a similar thing.

i doubt its the torsoion bar mounts as they rarely go bad.

 

theres not any play in the steering wheel. The loudness of the noise makes me think of the control arm loose and hitting something.
