Default using a paperclip in 1994 4.3 w S-10

The check engine light on in my 1994 4x4 S-10 4.3 w auto and I've read conflictive reports about using a jumper (a paperclip) because the 94/95 models were different. The connector on mine is of the 12 pin design. The engine starts fine but idles rough. An Actron CP9145 scanner supposedly works but I can't find one. So if any 1994 owners have info on this I would appreciate your replies.

Default Hmmmm

12 pin is correct for chevy pre-odb II connector. If this works. The link below shows you both types and you jump B & A with ignition off. Then turn on but don't start. Then the check engine light should flash a code.
