RE: venting problem
Common issue. Seems you've lost the vacuum source to the HVAC module in the dash. When no vacuum supply is present, the actuators go to their neutral state which happens to be floor & defrost.

You should get a better response in the mechanical & maintenance section. I'm not sure if I posted the vacuum routing for a 1st gen before, but I know I did for the 2nd gen non-auto hvac system. That might help... Typically this is caused by a faulty vacuum switch on the transfer case which can result in transfercase fluid being sucked into the HVAC system!! What a mess that is to clean up!

where is the vaccum hose that connects to the HVAC module?

RE: venting problem
It runs from the vacuum switch up through the firewall to the back of the HVAC switch.
