the starter engages while its running, ungodly load noise.
does it spurrratically ,STOPS engaging when i pull out the starter relay.
also when i go to start,it just starts without turning key all the way.
thank you for any help.
i will try relay from wife's gmc when she gets home!!~

could it be the ignition switch

"it just starts without turning key all the way.

and
"Turn off the key and the starter keeps cranking maybe 1 out of 4 times."
My guess, and it only a guess, is the ignition switch has gone bad in both cases.

I was fast enough to catch my starter in the crank-mode, and pulled the starter relay.
I had already pulled the fuse cover and wasn't fast enough on previous tries.
When I pulled the starter relay, the starter was still spinning for several more seconds.
I'm suspecting a sticky starter solenoid and will probably need to replace the starter.
I also have a K5 and that starter replace is a 15 minute job... plenty of room.
Not so with this 2000 4x4 Blazer. Why do they put the bolts where the sun doesn't shine ?

I hear you. I think they ought to make a GM engineer tear down and replace each device he helps design. If they design a starter, he has to pull it and replace it in his driveway with jack stands and not using a lift. Only then can he 'sign off' on his creations.
