Wow. Not one correct connection in that first photo. I mentioned being embarrassed, right? Fortunately, it didn't fry the alternator (tested fine at AutoArea). Starts and all systems go now. Sheesh, so particular!

in the original photo you had the battery red wire hooked directly to the engine ie. frame causing the large spark when you connected the black wire to the batt., but since the alt. and all the computers were out of the loop they didn't relalize any thing was wrong. so everything should be OK.

I was just having the same problem with my install. I just put in a 5.7 from a from a 2000 escalade in my 96 blazer. The install went really well until I had to hook up the wires on the alternator. I do not remember the 2 fuseable links wire hooking there but it fires up and runs so must be right. Thanks alot.

Ok so first off this isnt my vehicle...1996 s10 blazer a customer did a engine replacement himself and now has absolutly no power ANYWERE other than the starter and the altenator.
After reading this post i belive i also have this same problem... i only have 1 wire hooked to my altenator... and its the red wire... i cant find my 2 black wires anywere... can somone give me a hint as to were they might be hiding? Got a location on were it comes out of the stock loom from?
