It exits just to the passenger side of the transmission hump. If you remove the passenger side lower dash panel you should be able to see it. You may have to pull back the carpet a bit though.
Once it is in the engine bay, I believe it travels under the HVAC box and into the fender.

I'm needing to replace my antenna now. It's been snapped off.
Looks like I need to remove the fender to get access to pushing the cable back into the footwell.
BUT, in order to hold the new one in place, I need to get behind. How? There's no room.
Looks as if I'll need to remove the fender (passenger) or the inner guard. Any suggestions? Remember too this is RHD but maybe (hopefully) the reverse of LHD.
WTF? The Haynes manual says to remove bumper & hood as well to get the fender off!

Antenna
You can say that again. The service manual says remove the grill and hood and fender to replace the antenna. And I thought the Japanese were bad. GM has some real hackers.

for a while now I have had noisey am reception. did some testing today and think I have found the problem. If I remember corectly the ground shield should be grounded at the antenna base (mount on the fender). when I remove the antenna wire connection above the heater / ac box I have an open circuit between ground and the braid. appears the braid is not connected to the antenna base. How do you remove the base from the fender without removing the fender? I may have to sleeve the ant. cable with another piece of braid, which might be easier for me to do and ground it at both ends. any thoughts???

any thoughts on antenna removal? I can loosen the bracket by removing the two mounting screws, but how do you get the antenna mount out of the finder?
thanks

You need to remove the hood and fender. Its ridiculous. I ended up buying a Shark Attack 2 antenna from LoCustom for about $25 and mounted on the rear roof. Works excellent. Its an amplified antenna.

hey, thanks for the info that I did not want to hear!!!! I was leaning that way and hoping for better info. Temporaraly I slipped a piece of braid over the antenna coax cable. The end near the base of the antenna I put a couple of alligator clips over it to hold it tight and hopefully make contact with the base. On the other end I did the same tring to make contact with the shield of the motorola connector. Then I jumper cabled it to the frame. Need to check it with the ohm meter, and see if I made conntact. It did reduce the noise, but did not eliminate it.
If anyone else comes up with another suggestion please post it as I really don't want to remove the fender. Looks like a royal pita just to get at the antenna mounting base.
again thanks,
bernie
