Brake Rotors
Have a question. I am getting a little squeal from the front brakes on my blazer. I checked them out and have lots of pad left and the rotors seem fine. I would like to know if anybody knows the measurements that you can turn a rotor down to?? I figure maybe get the rotors turned and see if that is the cause. I just don't know how far I can have them turned down to. I have the micrometer and such so I need the measurements. Any info??
I can't answer your questions about the measurements, but I know dirty brakes will squeal, or cheap pads that create a lot of dust will squeal. Throw some brake cleaner on there and see how it sounds for a few miles.
Its not really a bad squeal, more annoying than anything. Figure I might be able to stop it before it does actually get worse. I did the brake cleaner thing already, didn't really help much. Thats why i figure that its more the mechanical part of it all. Haven't taken then apart just yet. Things never seem to go back together the same way when you take them off unless your putting new parts on. I know I should be able to measure the thickness of the rotors while all is still together. This way I would know whether it would be worth getting them turned or getting new(only 2 years old now about 45000KMs on them now, mostly highway) If I have to get new then I need to get a cash flow infusion first. Only a couple bucks to have them turned though.
I've always had problems with the hardware causing noise so i just chuck em. I've had the brakes on my z for 2 years now and no problems, I also took the hardware off my bosses Envoy cause he was having the same problem. So I'd check that out also, and with age the dust shields bend and warp very easy wich can also sound like noisy pads and it only takes a litte contact to make alot of noise.
