Exterior Rear View Mirror Replacement

Exterior Rear View Mirror Replacement
I am new to this forum - this is a phenomenal resource! I own a 2000 Blazer LT, 4 wheel drive, 4 door.
I am looking to replace my driver's side exterior rear view mirror by myself. The mirrors are the "moonvisor," or the light-reduction type for night driving, mechanical adjustment controls, and fold in. The mechanisms within and the mirror itself are not damaged. The exterior glass (the layer that holds in this... liquid... for the moonvision I wager) is broken from removing one of those self-adhesive wide-angle view mirrors. And... not removing it properly, apparently.
A quote I received from a mechanic to replace the unit was too high for my blood - reason being, they told me, was for the part. The quote was $500+, the part itself goes for only around $139.00 (Napa Online). Is the labor really the cost here? I was hoping the labor involved in replacing this part on my own would be a feat I could manage.
Does anyone have any guidance in how to replace the side view mirrors? Haven't found anything specific enough to help online yet. Will it require me to take off the interior door panel? My car repair skills are minimal, but myself and a couple friends could manage anything that isn't super technical, which is how I can see this task.
Thanks for reading!

RE: Exterior Rear View Mirror Replacement
Yea, remove the door panel & there are 3 bolts holding the mirror on.
At $500 he will most probably be replacing the entire unit. I've seen them advertized somewhere at around that price.
I have the power folding ones & need to get into it to fix the gear that does the folding.I am hoping someone will eventually open one & do a "how to" but I believe the US trucks do not all have the power folding option. The Haynes manual only shows how to take it off the door.
Here in New Zealand I will have to simply replace it with a used one at 400 bucks.
