I'm thinking it has to be something amiss with the motor mounts. I'm not exactly sure on the s-series trucks, but I know quite a few older vehicles have the motor offset to one side.

How does the fan shroud to fan fit look? (2nd time)

OK, more info:
The fan is perfectly centered in the fan shroud. Advance Auto originally provided me with the wrong part, I exchanged for the correct mount (same part #, different box) that is supposed to go in there and it is the same height as my original mount.

Is the 'knuckle' of the u-joint supposed to be in front of the bellhousing? I might be able to move the motor back about 1/4". The mounts on the motor are adjustable front to back- I have to check the holes on the crossmember for room tho.

Does anyone have a pic of their u-joint to motor clearance?

I bought some new front shocks, hopefully these will get ride of some of the bounce.

Sorry, can't help ya on the picture; mine's a '98 and has a slip joint at the transfer case end of the prop shaft.

If I'm not mistaken, the u-joint you see in the picture he posted is up at the front diff.

I installed a new trans mount, and there is about 3/8" between the front driveshaft and the motor. This still seems awful close. How much clearance should there be? Could someone snap a pic?

3/8" should be sufficient considering the mounting used for all of the components.

Many thanks, the driveshaft no longer hits. The transmission mount was bad, and this was compounded by bad shocks.
