Default Hard Starts

My Blazer has a new (40k miles) engine, and it's always started right up on the first try, catching before it makes a full revolution.

Recently, when it is cold, it has had to crank for a few seconds before it catches, and occasionally it runs really rough for a few seconds upon catching.

This only happens when the engine is cold, and it doesn't matter how long it's been sitting. Fuel type is not the issue, and the pump is working.

Any ideas?

Also, I think it's pretty funny that Ford advertizes on a Chevy forum.

Check fuel pressure and leakdown first, classic symptoms of a failing pump.

1997 ignition switch is unique to 97 and is known to have "issues" that can cause several different, (seemingly unrelated) problems with engine performance & transmission shifting.

Ignition switch as in the thing I stick the key in?

I'll get a fuel pressure gauge and check that, thanks.

Not where the key goes in, that's the lock cylinder. The ignition switch is inside the column cover, near the lock cylinder, and looks like this:

That looks expensive and hard to get to.

Labor time is 1.5 hours, longer if you've never done one

Buy ACDelco Ignition and Start Switch D1498C at Advance Auto Parts

Test fuel pressure and leakdown first. Key ON, engine OFF, fuel pump running: pressure must be 60psi to 66psi and must remain above 55psi for at least 10 minutes after the pump shuts off.

Ouch. I'm already spending a bunch of money fixing up the Jeep. Haha.

I'll check the fuel pressure. The neighbor has a tester.
