Default heating question

So about 2 weeks about we did the Intake gaskets,spider injection,lifters,water pump,belt,hoses. Its running good, but when im not driving i have very little interior heat. Once i start driving it works fine, the motor is the same temp before all the work. The heater use to work really good. So after reading, i think i could have air in the system, or we have the hose on the water pump wrong. Can somebody tell me the routing for the hoses on the pump...and how to "burp" the coolant system?

The way I do the "burp" part, I fill the radiator (slowly) until it is full, then grab the upper driver's side radiator hose and lift it up and down on it a few times. Usually the coolant level will drop a bit. That hose seems to be the place where air gets hung up. I do this a few times until the coolant level stops dropping after I lift the hose up and down.

Squeezing and relaxing the upper hose, with rad full and cap on, works better.*

How about trying this. Fill the radiator with thermostat housing off. Slowly after the first gallon. When it gets within 1/4 inch of overflowing install the thermostat housing.
If manifold has either the coolant sensor or plug where it used to be, you can use that, as well.
Make sure any thermostat you install has the little bleeder/stopper* in the plate {or is a super-stat, with a v-cut so it's self cleaning}
All else fails.. install a flushing tee at high as possible, convenient loc in the heater hose that goes to water pump. OR use suitable hi-temp ABS barb connector
