Default Key Fob, How To

Hello,

I'm currently interested in getting a key fob for my Blazer. I went to the dealership to have them look up my VIN to see if it had the receiver and they said it came off the factory floor with one installed. Throughout the years one of the past owners would seem to of misplaced it. Now I'd like to get a new one, but not for $95 plus $25 programming fee. I went to Autozone to see if they had a fob for sale and they said they didn't sell one for my car. Does anyone know where I can get a fob for cheaper or am I stuck going through the dealership? Can I program it myself or am I required to go through a dealer?

The dealer also mentioned that there are two different receivers for the Blazer, and therefore two different types of key fobs. How do I tell which is which?

Drop the driver side knee bolster (panel above your legs, below the steering wheel). The RKE module is a black box with a fairly large label on it. It should have an FCC ID listed on the label. This number will end with an 'R' (receiver). You want to purchase fobs with the same number ending in a 'T' (transmitter).

You could try Amazon or eBay. Programming is easy, just google it. I have done it before but can't remember off the top od my head. I know all the receivers have to be done at the same time.

Good info, swart. I've been wondering if my Blazer had a remote lock at all. I used this free VIN decoder site https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...vindecoder.php and it tells all. I only have the "Single 2-sided key for ignition, doors & tailgate."

Looked for the receiver with no luck. Looked under the panel next to the pedals, and looked under the panel below the steering wheel. Are there other locations for this device, or am I just blind? Any chance someone has pictures of its location?
