Leaking oil
Afternoon... Well first off the rear main seal is leaking-very common in these motors dating back to late 1954 (really!) This is a very labor intensive job to repair requiring removal of the transmission & oil pan (which will require all new gasketing as well) and possibly new motor mounts and related hardware also as the engine might have to be lifted to access the faulty parts. Question: Is it leaking an amount that you must monitor oil levels daily,is it dripping when parked? If not, then you have the usual issues of a 10 year old 4.3 with what must be at least 100K or more. Spend as much $ as you want, but these motors leak eventually, which is why I never really worry about these minor leaks. Use your own judgement & determine just how bad they are. This site will help you through any repair that you deem necessary! Good luck!
It might drip a little but not to where I need to check the oil levels frequently, and I didn't notice it last time I was under the car. As long as it's not something really bad then I'm not worried about it much.
In the second picture you can see the pipe with the oil on it. Oil is dripping onto it from a wire loom right above it, and the loom is covered with oil as far as I can see it, but I can't see it or any sign of a leak from the top of the engine. Does anyone know what could be leaking oil onto it?
easiest way is:
wipe down real well. then start it and see if the oil is coming from the oil pressure sending unit, the distributor or the rear seal on the intake. once you know post and I can help you with the repair.
I just went through all this with my wife's blazer
