Default More a/c help please

I had to replace the high pressure port valve as it was leaking, my question is how do i tell if i have any more leaks before i go get it vacummed and charged.I thought about putting the dye in it but the guy at the auto parts told me not to run it until I get it evacuated. Any help would be appreciated so I can get my truck back from my wife.

that depends what and how you install the dye... now is the time in my opinion, while system is empty, pick an easy access point a good one is the accumulator. pour die in the line or any other connector that is easy to access. then have vac and charged. if you go to a shop they can put die in 4 you while they charge it. dye is a solvent so never use more than a 1/4oz per system or it will cut the oil. make sure caps go back on and rubber seals are in them, they are considered a secondary seal, nut just a dust cap. thats it, the gas will distribute it evenly when system in ran.

Yeah, that makes sense. I was hoping I could check for leaks before I had it charged just in case it has another leak then all the new refrigarant would leak out.

well u can, kinda lol. u can put a little gas in and listen, charge w nitrogen and use a gas sniffer, or have vacumed and wait a few days and make sure it holds. when i do a/c repair, i vac and moniter gauges for 30 minutes. if drops a little and then holds, i know i have moisture in the system, if it drops right off u have a gaping leak. if not believed to have a gaping leak and doesnt show immediatly then dye and charge is fool proof. if is a better shop, they may have a gas sniffer and can check while they charge for a moderate leak.
