Default Roof rack issue

This is a little difficult to describe, but I will try my best. I have a 2001 ZR2. The cross bars on the roof rack wobble (rotate/roll forward and backward). The cross bars are not actually sliding forward and back on the bar connected to the roof because I have the screw as tight as it can go. I wasn't sure if this was normal or not until I felt the cross bar on another ZR2. Is there a fix to make them more rigid, or is it not an issue? I have had two 40lb kayaks with Thule J bars on the bars a few times now, but i just want to make sure that they are safe up there. Thanks.

It sounds like the screws might be stripped out. Try tightening as much as you can and see if you can move them, if so there definitely stripped, pulling off another blazer might be a good idea.

When you say: "screws as tight as they can go" do you mean the positioning ***** you loosen to move the bars up and down the rack? If so, they have little to no impact on wobble if you grab and twist.

That would be the 2 screws on the underside of each cross bar (4 per bar, 8 total) that hold the aluminum portion on the plastic portion that is INSIDE the side rails? Make sense?

If you mean you cranked those bad boys down and it's STILL wobbling, then yeah, stripped and 2 new bars will run you less than $30 (probably about 20) from a salvage yard. any 98+ roof rack will work. GL!

Sorry, but yes I was talking about the positioning ***** on the rails. I did not know about the other 8 screws. I will check to see if they need to be tightned. Thanks.

NPs. Good luck with it. They are short scews with wide thread and go into plastic so dont crank them down to like 75 fps or anything crazy just get a90 degree angled scew driver or load a bit in a 1/4 rachet and zap em down tight.
