Taping out knock sensor to make room for a larger one
I am going to put a 2002 Chevy s-10 motor in my 1998 Chevy Blazer. Both are 4.3L Vortec engines. The only thing that is got me worried is that the knock sensor on the new motor is 1/4 inch and I'm not sure what size mine is, but from what I understand I will have to tap & thread where my knock sensor was to make room to put in the other knock sensor....Everything else is compatable and easy installation. Any ideas on how hard this is?? And can I do it myself?? Does anyone know the standard size for the 1998 knock sensor?? Any advice would be great appreciated guys!

If your old sensor is a single wire sensor, it will be 1/4" National Pipe Thread. Tap drill size is 7/16"
Make sure you drill at the same angle as the old hole. A little bit at a time, blowing out the hole with compressed air as you go. This will help you see how deep you are. You wont need to drill as deep as the bolt hole, either. About 3/4" should be fine.
Same thing with the tap. Start square to the hole, use cutting fluid or lube of choice. Crank in a few turns then back off a little. Repeat. Clear hole as required
As far as everything else being compatible, you might want to check the lower intake for EGR and possibly (if your old engine had one) PCM coolant sensor.
Good Luck!

What do you mean the EGR is covered to. I was told that the only thing that it would hurt is the ses light it is actually less aggravating because of less carbon build up in the throttlebody. And do you mean the knock sencer to!

If you want to live with the persistant MIL lamp, then that's you're choice. The other alternative, is to have the EGR portion removed from the PCM via a custom tune. The choice is yours
Other than that, you should be good to go

Not yet, but planning to next year. Do a search, you'll come up with lots.
Good luck with the swap

Thanks man I got the motor out today it was not bad at all and I cant wait to be able to start putting the new one in. Im thinking its going to be alot easyer to put one in then it is to take it out. There was a harness on the top of the tranny that go pulled out but it snaped right back in some tranny fluid came out but like I said it cliped right back on and only time will tell if it is broken and its only a harness I think that if it is broke thats a small price to pay because that was the only thing that even remotely went wrong.
