thank you to all!!
well i am proud to say with the help of my new friends here on the forum and a little time and some bloody knuckles i have gotten the 99 almost back to how she was new! the problem with the hard start and no tach was one and the same. i replaced the sensor on the distributor after sitiing on the new sensor for a few weeks and she started right up and the tach was working for the first time since i got her! so thanks to all the advice. since joining ive replace the camshaft sensor, mass air flow sensor, vacum lines, transfer case motor, vacum switch and the dash switch(4 button) and now just have to reset the computer and fingers crossed all the lights will go off and stay off!

Better check the wiring close by, you may have disturbed it enough to make the tach work. The camshaft position sensor has nothing to do with the tach, in fact, you can disconnect the sensor and the engine will still run.

Sorry Start checking the wiring from the ignition coil to the ignition module, and eventually to the PCM. Probably a loose connection or a broken wire. Also, make sure the coil wire isn't shorting out between the coil & the distributor.

Needs to have a relearn if the crankshaft position sensor is disturbed. If the distributor is disturbed, (replacing lower intake gaskets, cam sensor etc) camshaft retard needs to be checked, and adjusted if necessary, but relearn is not mandatory.
