timing belt/chain

timing belt/chain
I need some opinions. I have my 2003 Blazer 4x4 with about 86k on it, in the shop to replace the water pump and intake manifold gasket since they were causing my coolant leak. My question is: would be cost beneficial to have them go ahead and replace the timing chain/belt? This was my dad suggestion and not the shops. Thanks in advance for advice

If you want to remove the timing cover,a good time to do it! As most will be apart anyway! Good timing! pun intended!... Have fun! step66

These engines have a chain, not a belt, and very rarely need replacing unless it has stretched over a lot of miles. It's your call.

It likely is still in perfect working order.
