Default Well Just had to put a new rear end in.

I posted a Thread awhile ago about my rear whining. Well, it finally bit me in the *** and bank account. Rear end fluid was never changed since I bought it with 78k miles now 134k bearing went out along with the race on the diff, and to beat it all! I have a 3.08 rear end which as I was told is a speacial order for towing etc. So, 780$ rear end and police having it towed because it cannot be parked in the front of your house being worked on. so being pulled on a roll back on leaf springs broke both shocks a tow bill and a ticket. My luck huh?

Yea it seems like when things go bad they can really go bad. That sucks the cops towed it. You must live in one of those POLICE STATES.
3:08 it NOT for towing way to high of gearing. 3:73 is much closer to a towing gear ratio. But the 3:08 was a special order. Heck you should get 30 MPG with those tall gears.

I live in Bristol, Tennessee, right next to the Virginia line so basically, all cops here are ********! They claimed they put a sticker on the back saying i had 42 hours to get it in my driveway so, my question was how the heck am I supposed to put a car in my driveway that is up hill with no rear end!? I usually get 16-17 mpg around 190 miles to a tank depending on how I drive. Why is this rear such a hard find? When I got it off the truck it was rusted to crap and was from florida but with only 16k miles on it, also had the complete brake system with new pads! Speaking I just put new pads and rotors, Doh!

The only thing I can think of is because 3:42 & 3:73s were pretty much the standard gearing. I would think with 3:08s gas mileage on the highway should be excellent. I have 3:73s in our 97 Blazer 4x4 & get 17-21 mpg. Easy 19-20 mpg on the road. If it would of been me I would of gone for the lower gears like the 3:42 or 3:73. But on a 4x4 you would of had to change the front also so you wouldn't of saved any money in fact spent more if you had someone do the labor.
