I used to think the same thing about JL and Kicker. There's several other good companies out there with products that are real good and aren't main stream such as DC, Incriminator Audio, Audioque, Ascendant Audio, T3 Audio, Hybrid Audio, Blues Car Audio, Audiopulse/TC Sounds and many more. The list goes on and on.

It also depends on the budget, and what you're looking for the sub to do. If you're looking for anything that can create bass without a demand for anything special in SQ or SPL then your options are pretty wide open. If you're looking to build an SPL monster, the choices are limited a little but doesn't necessarily take anything real special though SPL specific drivers do exist. Now, if you're looking for the utmost in accurate musical reproduction it limits the choices down considerably.

Wow, I can see I've been out of the audio game for quite sometime. I'm not familiar with any of the brands you've listed. I'm from the old school, back when brands like JL Audio, Kicker, Rockford Fosgate, Alpine, Pioneer, etc were all leaders in car audio. I personally have owned JL Audio, Rockford and Kicker woofers and have had no issues with any of those brands. The bad thing about some of the newer car audio is, it's just not built like it used to be built, which is both good and bad. They've had some new advancements in the world of car audio. Guess it's time I read up on it and re familiarize myself with what's going on.

when you say leaders it all depends on what you're talking about. Kicker, Rockford, JL, and Alpine are still leaders, but in main stream audio. Sundown, AA, and so forth are breaking out and getting big which is a great thing i think. so just keep asking the questions and someone will give you a good answer

I was in high school when I was really into car audio, so, we're talking the early 90's, then I got out of it for a little bit, and now I'm starting to get back into it. Another company I remember that was good, not sure if they are any more is Zed Audio.
