So, I have the factory Bose system (replaced the small dash speakers with stock Bose units from a Bose-equiped suburban D-pillar speakers) so it all sounds good (aka works again) but I want to add a tiny bit more low end just for depth, not any hard hitting lol.
So I picked up an Alpine 450W mono and a pioneer 8" sub. I picked these 2 after hours of looking through specs for the best combo of power and sound quality.
Gonna be building a custom enclosure where the OnStar receiver is currently located. I'm hoping to get it as stock looking as possible so any advice, ideas, etc are welcome!

 

 

I would imagine you could build a 4-sided enclosure of about 0.5cu ft out of 3/4" particle board into of the Onstar compartment, leaving the back side and bottom finished by the car's body. If you end up with the particle board fitting nicely inside the plastic, the speaker could stick through it pointing across the vehicle (which would be OK for bass). But where to put that big 12" x 12' AMP? Both aren't going to fit in there. Might try a Soundstream PN1.650D it's only 4" x 9" x 2" might be able to mount it on top of the box underneath the lid and mount some sort of louvered grill to let the heat out. Class D amps don't make nearly as much heat as the old amps, but we're talking tight spaces here. I have my 5-channel Soundstream mounted in the Onstar box and it never gets too hot, but it's the only thing in there other than wires. I use an 8" Bazooka tube pointing to the back corner for a sub.

Lesmeyer, I was even thinking of glassing the entire interior of the OnStar compartment with blocking for stability and sub mounting. But you're totally right about that (relatively) big Alpine.. I'm considering removing the 6-disc changer from the console and adding the Alpine directly over the factory Bose amp..

 

Take some pics of what you end up doing. It's interesting to me.

 

Will do. I know alotta people will think it's crazy sticking with the Bose/delco, but I wanna be that guy with the full stock classic ride in 2040😜😂
