Benedict's Blazer
went to the junk yard today with disappointing results... went to take the front diff off of the bravada and then remember I needed the 36mm socket to get the cv's off, and I can say this, THERE IS NO EASY WAY TO GET THEM OFF!!!!! I had the whole front diff unbolted and I could not get the cv's out for the life of me. I've given up on getting junk yard gears, half of the trucks there is no room underneith to unbolt the stuff and everything way snow and mud I was covered in mud water and differential grease.... I'm also stumped on how to get the rear pinion out (also didn't have a large enough socket for that...) pulled the driveshaft off and realized that the pinion is just free spinning how the heck am I supposed to crank the bolt off??? so alls I got today was lost, frustrated, a fog light, and 2 horns. at least I can say the horns work and the junk yard is always fun to go and mess around at. It didn't help that my two friends were more interested in goofing off and pocketing bmw parts.. pretty sure my drivers side hub is shot again, that'll be the 3rd time... gotta change my oil and get longer shocks, the bilstiens aren't cutting it. aslo need to get my flowmaster welded, my windshield fixed, and probably some new control arm bushings.
Blowmaster welded? Did it rot out on you? I'll be honest and say it wouldn't surprise me, they're notorious for that.
As for getting underneath, can you get some sort of jack underneath of those trucks?
And what make of hub are you using?

The flowmaster isnt rusted but i kinda rigged my exuast advance auto only had one pipe the right size so therw is a leak going out the tailpipe and the weld at my y pipe broke somehow too... As for the jacks the junkyard i was at doesnt allow any jacks. Im really not sure what brand of hubs o havr since ntb put my last ones on back in october. Whats a good brand to get?
Personally I'd pay the extra coin for some ACDelco hubs... but that's just me lol.
Buddy had a Cavalier with a hub go, bought some cheap parts store stuff and 2 weeks later needed a new one. He bought AC Delco the 2nd time around and it lasted him until he totalled the car 3 years later.

couldn't they zip off the cv nuts for you? most yards have idiots in yard trucks running around.......
that's a major no-no @ every JY.
hell, i know of one where they tell you to not even reach under the vehicle in case it shifts & falls.
HTF is it gonna fall? the wheels are off & it sits on the ground!!
sorry. was re-living an arguement i had @ that yard, as i was writing that.
