Well I got my new sprocket and installed it today.

The new one is a little bigger, which caused me some trouble, but I got it all sorted.

So far I really like it. The bike doesn't vibrate hardly at all anymore. Not to mention I can do over 90mph in 3rd gear now

 

Oh yeah, I got my pegs in and on. It's really hard to even tell they are different though.

 

Did you change the chain also?One site about motorcycles real harp on this.Its makes sense use old stetch out chain it causes premature wear on the new sprockets.I know mine are extremely worn its on my to do list.Im going to upgrade to 1 tooth up from standard.Looks like your making good progress and its going to be nice when its finished.

 

Very nice build Thog. This thread makes me want to go get a bike and starting modding! I had planned on learning last year but I never got around to it. Hopefully this year, ride safe!

 

No I didn't replace the chain, but I may sometime soon.

 

So I got caught in a pretty heavy thunderstorm on the bike today for over 10 miles. By about mile #5 the bike started having issues running. I figured the airbox probably was getting water in it (the previous owner cut more air holes in it.) I managed to coax it home and just now got around to opening the airbox to see what was up.

The water looks brown in the pic, but was really green IRL. It also smelled strongly of gas and had an oily feel. So I cleaned it out, and will check it again in about a week to see if any gas is finding it's way into the box, or if it was just water.

 

That sucks. If it's water you could drill a small hole or two in the bottom to drain it out in case that ever happens again.

 

Yeah find a way to get that water out of there and run some seafoam in your gas to clean those carbs.Then get yourself some quality pod filters.If you dont mind tinkering on the carbs you`ll probaly have rejet to make for the difference in air flow from the pods.
After several weeks of tinkering,tweaking and maintanance I got my xs running again.All I need to do is balance the carbs.
I forgot 1 thing get yourself a new chain asap befor you ruin your new sprockets.A stretched out chain will put the old wear pattern in your sprocket shortening their life considerably.

 

So I've decided that this next week I think I'll be getting a new jet kit. It comes with a 5* timing advancer, bigger jets and shims, and 4 K&N pod filters that replace the stock airbox. It says with a slip on it'll put out 8 more HP. So maybe a new slip-on should be in the works as well.
