Hinging it would be easy. Just use the outside area as a frame (the cuts around the wheelwells and seats and such) and hinge the inner portion so it pulls up and pivots in the back.

Yeah it would be possible but I would have had to do it from the start and not cut it straight down the middle and instead make the two wider cuts and use the entire center as a "lid".

But now you could do two "drawers" inside there with their own lids.

Thats a thought! I have a few drawer slides laying around (nice ones that you can slam shut and they will slowly close themselves) that I could use I will look into it but that will be later first thing I need to do is get some carpet on it and make it look pretty

Not sure what I got myself into today!! I needed a place to mount a few switches for my lights and a few other things down the road and I don't like where my switch is mounted right now so I decided it was time to start thinking and this is what I came up with. I am not finished yet but its all I had time for today.

I started by searching available materials I had laying around so it wouldn't cost me anything to do and I found this.

Then I had to figure out how to mount it. I originally thought I would mount it with the switches facing upward kind of right below the factory panel on the left side of the steering wheel but after looking at it for a bit and playing with cardboard I didn't like it. Heres what I came up with instead

I don't have a bender so I got creative and used wood and clamps and just took my time with it

And here is where I'm at so far. My intent is to only mount switches up to the black line so it is even with the factory switches. I left all of the material above that line so I have something to work with when finishing the top all purdy like!

You can see here that I angled it in a bit so that it faces you while sitting in the seat. Yes it was done on puropose lol!

And with the door closed.

Now all I have to do is figure out how I'm going to finish the top portion off so it looks like it should be there rather than a hole. I'm thinking about attempting to work the metal over so that it has a rounded top and hugs along the dash nicely. I have never done much sheet metal work before so I will be figuring it out as I go but then again thats what I have done so far and I think its turning out ok. I will paint it once its formed properly and add switches when I figure out which ones I want to use. The nice flat surface will also allow me to label them which will be nice.

Let me know what you think and any ideas on how to finish the top throw em up please!
