Hello All, I'm in Los Angeles, and I recently was gifted this Chevy project from a friend, but there's tons of work/issues to mediate before it's back on the road.
I don't know what I'm doing as all of my car connections/people don't have any recs/knowledge about this car/model. If possible, I would really appreciate some guidance on how I should move forward with this project, or if I should just sell the car... Here's all the details:
1988 Chevy K5 Blazer with a man
ual 5.7L (350ci ) VB w/EFI (TBI).
Somehow the seller had the smog certificate and clean title. The mileage on the smog says it had 127,001 miles, but the speedo is broken. I drove the car back to my place and it drove relatively well with some hiccups here and there, but I think the battery died since then. Also, according to the original brochure, the manual version of the 88 blazer wasn't available in CA back then. I don't know if that's a good thing (rarity) or a bad thing.
As for the condition, the frame, body, and chassis are great. The power steering and breaking doesn't work right now. The interior needs work, as does the transmission/gearbox as shifting. All of the electrical is not on/working - not sure if it's broken or disconnected. Also, the AC/heat, radio and seat belts aren't connected.
Please let me know what you think, and if you could provide me with any references or guidance. Also, let me know what you think its worth!
It's just about the easiest vehicle in the world to work on so, if you're wanting to learn, it's a great place to start. That transmission (SM465) and transfer case (if it's a NP205, which it looks like) are basically indestructible, and the Throttle Body Injection is very reliable, even if it doesn't produce a ton of power. Also, it looks like your particular vehicle is in very good condition for its age. I would keep it if I were you (but I'm a little biased because I still own what's left of my '88 after it sacrificed its drivetrain for my 2000.)
