Default 1996 s10 blazer overheated!?

Looking at a 1996 s10 blazer vinWthat overheated. Now it makes a knocking sound. What usually causes these things to overheat? and what would cause the knocking after overheating it. Can't seem to tell exactly where it's coming from.
Thank you, Caddy500

There may be a fewthings causing overheating, bad thermostat, radiator or head gasket.
Is there any coolant in the oil? White smoke out the exhaust?

Leaking intake gasket, not checking coolant, bad radiator head gasket, ect.... The knocking is a result of the overheating, probably a spun bearing, threw a rod, cam bearing, ect.. Not good ! Check your oil,is it like a chocolate milkshake? If so probably a head gasket. Good luck.
