Default 1999 blazer 4l65e swap

Howdy folks'! Ive been in need of a new transmission and Tcase due to my personal incompetence and the Tcase oil pump hole thing- Finally got my hands on a local NP236 transfer case, and I've got a couple local options for various 4l60e 4x4's...

I'm currently looking to grab a 2004 6.0l k-truck 4L65E 4x4 (4KZD) to replace my 1999 4.3l T-truck (9TAD) 4l60e 4x4 transmission. Also doing the transfercase as I said, but it's a straightforward 1:1 swap with a matching unit so I'm not expecting any problems....Now the tranny, on the other hand....

To my knowledge, the bolt pattern shouldn't be a problem- I'll need a the gasket for the trans-Tcase mount, and everything else should just be plug and play right? I think there was something about the 4l65e shift lever being slightly too long and needing to be swapped?

I'll be doing the job with a buddy whos got a proper lift and jack- im not expecting any problems, and I've got a backup 2002 2KBD 4l60e 4x4 we can switch in if something doesn't line up off the hop.

Im feeling confident about the job after drowning myself in research- but nonetheless could I get a crowd sourced idiot check before I dive deep into the belly of the beast?

The only thing that scares me is the upper mounting bolts apparently being a massive pain in the *** - if daisy chaining 3/8s universals can't solve that problem, I was thinking of ripping out the lower dash and cutting two little holes in the cab floor to get at them... but that's still a long ways off 😅

A bit of a late reply, but I'm really interested to know if you did proceed with this swap, and how did it go? I believe that the housing should bolt up, but I don't know if the stock Blazer ECM would recognize and control the 4L65E? Would it be necessary or possible to tune the ECM to do it?

Well we didnt get too far. I knew there was a difference between torque converters, but I thought that was only between production groups. Turns out the torque converter was too big, so we put the 4l65e back in storage - we have another 4l60e from a 2002 Tahoe we are going to try next
