Default auto convert to manual?

i've always had the idea of turning my auto blazer into a manual one. but whats the reality of this? what would all be involved and would it really be worth it in the end?

If that's really what you wanna do, then it's worth it, if you can do it yourself.
How are you at cutting, welding and fabricating?
I'm not to sure about the computer side of the problem but you would obviously have to mount a clutch pedal, clutch master cylinder, cut a hole in the floor for the shifter. Possibly adjust the length of the driveshaft. Probably change the crossmember and trans mount. Adjust the exhaust?

My son wants me to convert his '80 Malibu wagon to standard. I haven't even started to think about that yet.....but soon [sm=sigh.gif]

sometimes its easier in the long run and buy the engine/tranny combo you want.
I loked into the auto to manual swap, what a pita. I think i'd rather just find a ZR2 and go from there.

I should clarify. I also wanted the 8.5" rear axle, which comes in Blazers witht eh manual tranny. so for me it would be more cost effective to buy the truck with the auto already.

Well shoot! I have a junk 85 s10 pickup in my back yard with a good 5 spd manual, and just came across an 84 that's in great shape that has a bad auto trans. that can be had for a good price....guess I'll let it go.

Buy the truck, sell the manual and buy a used auto tranny for it.
