Default Cat Converter Problem

I started my blazer up the other day after I went muddin a few weeks back and after it idled down it started to putter a bit, idle up a bit and putter again. I went under the truck and listened to the cat and heard some rattleing inside. Im thinking of cutting it off. Any ideas? Maybe repair it or something instead of going with out? Also anyone know if you can get it legal after cutting it off in West Virginia?

Sounds like a classic case of the cat's insides burning out and coming apart. They will make their way back to the muffler and start to plug it, also. The catshould be replaced since it is against Federal rules to remove a cat without replacement.

Yeah, you probably want to replace the cat anyway since it will have a negative impact on performance if it does plug up. If you can hear the rattle when you hit the cat it definitely is breaking up.

Adam, he lives in West Virginia. The Federal government says it's illegal to run without a cat in the U.S. if your car is newer than (I believe) a 1976. It may also be illegal in West Virginia, I don't know.

Yes it is illegal. But, not if you drive "offroad" only. I know of a place that sells O2 sensor cheats. The site is called casperselectronics.c0m They are called O2 sims. They trick your comp. into thinking the O2 sensor is hooked up and working fine.
