Problem is the 2.8 is a different engine setup than the 4.3. The reason everyone goes for the 350 is because it bolts right up to a 4.3 truck.

Pretty sure from the 2.8 platform, the direct swap is the 305 v8. To go with a 350 you need a new transmission, and I have no idea if the mounts will even match up with the engine and tranny..

the bolt pattern for the bellhousing differs between 2.8 and 4.3. The 305 and 350 are physically identical except for the bores. so if you have a 2.8 truck you need to get a new trans and driveshaft. the jagsthatrun website is very helpful. good luck with your swap

Yep, the 2.8L is a 60* v6 which represents the angle between the cylinder banks. The 4.3L and the v8s (305, 327, 350, etc) are 90* V engines which have a larger bell housing bolt pattern.

Ah...ok. So which engines bolt right up to a 2.8 in the v8 persuasion?

You are pretty much limited to the 3.4L swap that is all so common. It really is a direct drop in swap (well, depending on original and swap induction systems that is).

no V8 will bolt up to a tranny from a 2.8 engine
