Gearshift button stuck
Hi all,
'97 Blazer owner here with automatic transmission. Encountered a problem last night that I haven't seen discussed here or on the General Tech forum. Button won't push in all the way on the gearshift lever and I can't shift it out of Park. Just makes a loud click and you can feel it in the steering column. We've had intermittent problems turning the key to start the machine which are usually resolved with a lot of jiggling, but wondered if that is related.
Any advice is very much appreciated.

We did get that advice, thank you, but it didn't help. We ended up popping the boot off of the shift lever and observing the little levers inside that moved when I tried to push the button. My husband tried pressing one of them and voila! The shift lever moved out of park. We drove it home and he noticed that the brake lights were going wacky, and I noticed that the turn signals were out. Took it to the shop and it ended up being a blown fuse. Got it fixed for 83 cents!
(I love it when that happens.)
