with a blazer, how do you pull heavy horsevan or trailer, 4X4, 4X2 or Auto 4X4 ?
I ask you this question, because last week end I've pulled a horsevan with 4X4 auto mode and my car had difficulties tu run just like it can't easily move from 4x2 to 4x4 every time. the car was shaked.
regards.

run it in 2 wheel drive (4x4 off) that way it does not have to use extra power to turn the front tires. I THINK your blazer has the options "Park, Reverse, Neutral ,(D), Drive, 2, 1"
When you change gears, you want it to be in "Drive/D" and not in (D). When its in (D) the transmission works harder with heavy loads.

my blazer has the options "Park, Reverse, Neutral ,(D), 3, 2, 1".
So it is better to change manualy the 3 drives and to stay in 3 when it is possible on the road is that right ?

yea, overdrive componets make the output shaft on the tranny spin faster then the engine is spinning, to save gas. These componets are not very stong for heavy loads like a trailer because your transmission shifts into overdrive depending on vehicle speed, engine load, throttle position and a few other factors, with added weight to the vehicle, the transmission will get confused and be constantly shifting in and out of overdrive at higher speeds. so stay in 3rd gear which is a 1:1 ratio, you will use more gas at higher speeds but it will prolong the life of your tranny, especially the overdrive gear / clutches.
Leave it in 2 wheel while towing, that is unless your rear tires are spinning due to the heavy load, then switch it to 4X4 to get unstuck then put it back in 2 wheel once you get going. That is if your twing in snow/ice/mud.

I use an 86 F250 4x4 to pull heavy loads. For medium heavy I use our Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 5.9.
I pulled one time with my Blazer & burned the tranny fluid black & it was so hot it was blowing out the vent tube.

I thought the Grand Cherokee 5.9 Limited wasn't supposed to tow anything, that's what the local Chrysler dealer told me when I was thinking about buying a 1 owner white one
