Hello everyone! I created an account for this very post, recently a rattling noise has started when I shift from park to reverse or drive. I’m not too sure where the noise is coming from but I know it happens when I shift gears. I should note that I had a brand new transmission installed in December. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!

 

U joints, maybe?

 

My crystal ball is foggy so Info would be nice - 2WD - 4WD - year - ECT - if 4WD it could be the transfer case drive chain has too much slack ....

 

sorry for the lack of detail. been a chaotic few days! I’ve got an 01 4WD LS.

 

Just had a thot if it sounds a tin rattle check the heat shields for the cat and exhaust and ECT

And ya sorry for the comment it's been one of those days here also - I had a gal a few years back give me a call as she headed across the state and ask me my car just died whats wrong with it .... Ya the crystal ball comment came out then too ....

 

What @odat mentioned will likely be the issue. May want to look at motor and transmission mounts for being broken or soft. Maybe allowing drive train under load to move a bit to far and touch something it shouldn’t. Also since it was just repaired look for loose bolts or parts such as exhaust brackets skid plate, ect. It happens! I know this first hand LOL,

thank you for all the help? How would you recommend going about checking for all the things you both mentioned?

 

To check for motor mounts, I've always gotten a helper, pop the hood, truck in drive with parking brake on, and have the helper bring the engine to a fast idle (with their other foot FIRMLY pressed on the brake pedal!) if the motor mount is bad, you'll see the engine rise several inches.

Needless to say, stand off to the side of the truck when you do this, just in case.
