Default Thinking about a tranny swap

My transmission is slipping. Reverse, first, and third gear are worthless and 2nd only catches at a roll. We think it may just be the clutch, but i found a parts blazer with a blown engneine and good trans for a grand. Will the 99 4 door 2wd auto trans fit the 98 4 door 2wd with auto trans if both have a vortec? I may just switch the wholentranny? Advice?

Transmissions are the same.

Rats, that truck sold before I could get my hands on it. Is the 93 Blazer or 96 4.3L Jimmy auto transmission the same as the 98 Blazer? I don't want to pay for a rebuild when I can get another trans in a parts truck cheeeeeap.

Correct me if Im wrong but the 93 will be 700r4 or 4L60, 96-97 will be 4l60e, and 98+ will be 4l60e or 4l65e. Hope it helps.

Helped a lot more than google! Thanks man, that at least helps me kick the 93 off the list.

My ATSG book states that 93 was the first year for the 4L60E. There were improvements made through the years. You will want to look for a 98+ transmission as the pre-98 transmissions will not be a two piece main case (removable bell housing). Plus there are other internal differences pre-95 that make them incompatible with the programming in your 98.
