Torque Convertor wont unlock
Well thats at least what I think is going on. After crusing around 50 mph and have to stop at a light, as the vechicle is slowing I can kind of feel it downshifting and by looking at the tach it appears that this is happening. When i get down to about 5 - 10mph the tach drops to about 300 rpm and then surges up to 700 or so and then back down to 300 and sometimes stalls out the engine. I think that when i slow down it is downshifting from 2nd to1st when the rpms surge from 300 to 700 then after it is in first the revs slowly drop as i come to a complete stop and like i said it sometimes stalls out the engine. It seems to me that after i get up to crusing speed the converter locks but does not unlock when it is suposed to. Also after the tranny gets nice and hot (10 or 15 mins on an expressway) when accelerating from a dead stop it shifts real hard into 2nd. Not sure if this problem is related or not. Anyone have any suggestions?

RE: Torque Convertor wont unlock
My sister actually just started having this problem with her jeep. It is the torque convertor. Basically what happened with hers was it got junk in it from the old transmission and now it won't unlock unless it has been driven around for a while.
A temporary fix is putting it in neutral when slowing down, but the tranny shop she went to said that she needed a new torque convertor. Price for hers was $600.
