I have a 98 blazer 4.3, 4x4, auto, 4door, 72K. I have owned this truck for about3 months and its been trouble free. I bought it with 66K this thing is a cream puff still has the windo sticker and original sales recept in the glove box. No issuses, except for a hard 1-2 shift which was not of a real concern. I was driving down the road tonight 30-35 mph and heard a whinging servo type noise from under the truck followed by a clunk. It all sounded much like the 4x4 shift motor, as i stoped and started at the next light i found that the trans was holding first until i let off the gas and then banged into 2nd. also i no longer have reverse, i found that out after i pulled in a down sloping parking spot.Now when i put it in drive it holds fristand revs up to 4500rpm and wont shift to 2nd unless i let off the gas. does any one have any idea what this is and how to fix it??. Ive already replaced a trans in my wifes 2000 jimmy and I realy dont want to have to go through that horror again even with a lift, air tools, a trany jack and an oxi torch its not fun.

I would suggest doing a tranny fluid change. When you drain the tranny if it is full of metal flakes you probably need a new tranny.

 

I was thinking the linkage but that weouldnt cause it not to go into second,so my advice would be to take it to a shop to get checked out.

EXACTsame thing just happed to me. '00 4x4 LT (117.7K). Needed new transmission. Happened without any warning.
Left it at the dealership and just got the GM certified replacement. 36mo/50K warantee. As a widow, I have always just
taken my car to the small town dealership a couple blocks from my house. I like to keep cars a long time I usually figure
at least $1K per year at this point in time.

My problem is the gas gaugeworked fine when I left it at the dealership. They said when they moved it inside, the fuel gauge
was no longer working. I know that it was just over 1/2 tank when I dropped it off. Any ideas whatcould have
happed to the gauge in that short amount of time?
