you shouldnt need any scan tool to do first fire up. i never had to when i did my lim gasket. also (should be similar) when i finally fired up my mustang for the first time after rebuild i didnt use any special tools. i just found TDC and then aligned the cam sensor and away i went.
if you find TDC and then follow then inst for the dist you should be fine. also check youtube it may help you to see it done.
good luck

I believe I messed up somewhere cause it stillu doesn't start. I'm just gonna have the local mechanic look at it, he said he thinks it timing so I'll have him fix it. I don't think It'll cost too much.

I forgot to update. I got it timed properly and is running well. Was a lot easier then i was making it. I do need to change plugs, cap, and rotor. I cracked my cap when screwing it on, but it'll wait till Friday. My plug for #1 got stripped somehow, so it is kinda loose and ticks unless I pusj it in with my hand, so now that I need 1 changed I might as well do the others. So Friday = oil change(to make sure no coolant is in it from the LIM gasket change), and all new plugs, etc.
