Whats the difference between the 4wd and the 2wd brake rotors? I've been shopping around for some brake rotors because mine are warped and cannot be resurfaced any further an I came across some in JCWhitney, but they have them for 4wd, but not 2wd. Whats the difference? or Is there a difference?

 

I justreplaced mineabout 6 months ago and when I went to the parts store the looked themup and said that they were the same part number. I went to O'reilly by the way. If your rotors are warped be sure to check the calipersbecauseon mytruck it was about 1 month after I noticed the brake shimmy andcheck that I was able to afford the frontand rear rotors and pads because I wanted tochange everything atonce. It caused the passenger caliper to go bad. Sothen of course I also replaced 2 calipers also.

 

No Its not the calipers causing it. It was me being stupid. I washed it right after I had drove it and sprayed the disc.

 

The difference between 2wd and 4wd came into play before they switch the 2wd front bearings over to a similar sealed unit as the 4wds have. Before this change was made, the front disks on a 2wd were also the entire hub assembly, housing the bearings as well. Your truck should use the same front rotors as the 4wd, but rear rotors (assuming 4wheel disk) are different for some reason...

 

Its all disk (thank goodness). I have ceramic pads on the back that are pretty much brand new and I have some slightly worn semi-metal ones on the front that will be replaced with the rotors. I'm gonna go all the way around with some cross drilled rotors.

 

Be careful with crossdrilled rotors. There is actually no benefit to cross drilled rotors due to the decrease in actual pad contact area coupled with the decrease in structural strength if they are in fact drilled standard rotors. To be as strong as stock, the holes must be cast in. You'd be better off with slotted rotors.

 

These won't be stock drilled rotors. They'll be Brembo or Wilewood. I will probably go with slotted. or Slotted & drilled.
