We'll my Blazer is totaled. Ending mileage on the odo is 200,000 and the engine only has 50,000 on it.

Got my self an 01' Jimmy with only 65k miles on it. And the insurance company let me keep my Blazer.

-New engine installed - cracked the block @ 150k
-Rebuilt trany when the engine was replaced
-2x Alternator - replaced it with a refurbished one that failed on the last day of the warranty so it was replaced again for free.
-Radiator
-Water pump
-Thermostat
-Fuel pump
-Fuel cap
-Driver door panel
-then the usual maintenance stuff break pads, tires, oil, coolant.

Toys added
-Stereo
-4x speakers "rear and door"
-amp and subs

More stuff coming soon. Someone abandoned a 2dr LT and it's been sitting at our tow yard almost long enough so I'm going to swap some body parts on it.

Current issues

-ABS & Parking break light come on together. Results in no ABS. It doesn't happen all the time. Can figure out what the cause is though. The manual says pull over immediately and have it towed to the dealer.
-Heater core leaks. I just corked the hoses. Heater never worked though. Happened two weeks ago.
-Differential is starting to go.
-Need to replace the lifts on the rear glass. Sometimes it holds and sometimes it doesn't. It's not fun getting hit with that spike to the back of the head.

I bought a 2000 Blazer 4WD, v6, LT three years ago with 145K.

Replaced the following
  • Alt.
  • Ball Joints
  • Tie rods
  • Wheel bearings
  • Rear wiper motor
  • Distributor, cap, rotor, spark plugs, and wires
  • Brake lines
  • Fuel Filter
  • All belts
  • Transmission
  • Transfer Case
  • Heater Core
I'm a GM guy but this thing has been a dumpster fire, every time I fix it, something else breaks a few days later. I can't seem to part ways with it though.

Dumpster fire - GREAT analogy!

Ours was too ('00 Jimmy) - I put up with it for 2 years, and then reached my breaking point ...

It's parts are now all over the world. The engine is in our '89 S10, minus any and all electronic gizmos. It suddenly became reliable.

The last pic is of it's final resting place ...

I've had my 99 Blazer 4x4 4 door for a bit over a year now. Bought it from my dad for $1000. Has about 250k on it with the original motor and transmission still.

Recently did the Spider Fuel injection system, plugs wires distributor, cap, rotor, crankshaft sensor, fuel pump/filter, ignition module and water pump and rear brakes.

I've got 30" Cooper Discoverer STT's and a custom roof basket. Working on adding a rear tire carrier and bumper guard with some off-road lights on the basket

Bought my 97 4x4 in January 2003 with 63k miles. Today it has 249k,
In 12 yrs changed:
Front calipers
Several brake pad replacements
AC compressor
Radiator
Right hub
VSS sensor (the bad one caused transmission not to shift to 3rd.)
1 alternator replacement
Blower motor
Hood: paint was peeling
Intake manifold gasket
Fuel injector spider system
4!!!!!! Ignition switches. Last one was an AC Delco ignition switch. Works fine now!
Two tune ups & fuel filters
Two fuel pumps & fuel filters
Regularly scheduled oil changes & oil filters, air filters

Well, my (wife's) 1995 Blazer has an interesting story. It was a great find. I got it in August of 1999 with only 5420 miles on the odometer. It still had the paper floor matts from the dealership.

The original owner's wife purchased it as a retirement present for him. But, he liked his Chevy pick-up much better. So, it basically sit parked in his garage for five years. Unfortunately, cancer had come back on him and was diagnosed as terminal. Thus, I learned that he was selling his Blazer for cheap!

Anyway, early on, I was happy with it. But, as the years have come and gone, it's been a money pit. And, ironically, only driven by my wife.... 95% of the time.

At 20 years in age and 108k miles, I've replaced the Alternator, AC compressor, both front rotors/calipers, muffler/exhaust system three times, leaky windshield washer container, broken seat selector lever, both outside mirror assemblies (cheaply made and attached), leaky side post on the battery rotted the 4-wheel drive servo cable before we discovered the issue, brake booster, heater/AC unit under hood has broken to pieces, all the rubber thingys with the chassis are dry rotted, front suspension items are in need of replacement, right front wheel bearing going, and the list goes on.

I guess the $15,000.00 I saved buying it vs a brand new '99 model is covering all these expenses and headaches.

So, at my age, one more SUV will probably do us. Whether it will be another GM product is very doubtful.
