I have a 2001 Blazer that I bought in 2002 from a leasing company. See if I can remember everything I've replaced. Transmission twice. Fuel pump twice. Distributor twice. Total exhaust system (catalytic converters collapsed). Alternator twice. Starter once or twice. Water pump and radiator. Rear window electric latch (what a PAIN!!). Front end/ball joints. Normal brake pads and rotors, plus rear calipers. Rear window that shattered into little pieces. EGR valve. Front grill and hood from somebody hitting me, which now needs replacing again from hitting a deer. The windshield is cracked from a hailstorm. Now the heater fan doesn't run, even though I measure voltage at the connector. And the ABS and brake lights keep coming on. That's enough.

I lucked out bigtime. I bought a 1999 4dr 4x4 Blazer a couple of weeks ago, for $2200.00 with 130k on the chassis, 600mi on a top to bottom brand new motor, new radiator, new AC compressor, new distributor, new $200 battery, the thing is quiet, runs GREAT, stays straight when you brake, the 4wd works good, it passes inspection, gets 20mpg on the highway, has nearly new Michelin LTX M/S tires, it even had a new Cobra radar detector velcroed to the dash that the previous owner graciously left planted there..

i bought mine from a friend 4 months ago. it had sat for almost 1 year because it would not start for her and was tired of constant money pit. i had left the country for 8 months and before i left i had been driving it 100% of the time, i had put in new radiator and hoses and thermostat, new fuel filters, new brake shoes all 4 corners and 2 new tires on rear. while i was out of country shop put in new fuel pump, charged 65 bucks to put the air box back in i had left out when putting in new radiator. that is 10 minute job for a 5 year old!!!. they later unplugged the abs system and replaced the distributor cap, rotor and wires.
when i came back to states i bought old crew cab dualy and travel trailer. then i bought blazer for extra vehicle. paid friend to take bus from out of state and drive blazer to south dakota while i pulled trailer with truck. on way to bus station with truck i lost fire so got my friend to pick me up and take to blazer. blazer would not start so borrowed her car to go to bus station. ended up buying new distributor for truck.and ran hot wire to fuel pump with toggle switch. forgot to mention i replaced the ignition module in front of coil before i bought it from her. blazer made it back to south dakota just fine and he drove it for 3 weeks untill i was able to pull trailer to south dakota. dually is broke down so i spend all my time driving and fixing blazer. went to sioux falls to pick up $1000 of deep cycles for off grid trailer and on way back it got a dead miss and was acting up i barely made it home. pulled distributor cap to find a hole in the new cap behind the rear screw (they broke her cap or sold her a cap with a hole in it) front screw hole was busted out. so i bought whole new distribotor, wires, and then coil. then pulled upper intake to find spider was leaking so put in a brand new updated one. number 3 still has a dead miss. buy compression guage and find number 3 has ZERO compression, squirting oil dont help. so order rebuilt heads on ebay and tear down. bent exhaust valve on number 3, cut exhaust pipe between y and cat to drop manafolds enough to get heads back on. order new lifters and rods and of course you have to replace all the head bolts. clamp a connector over the pipe with 2 u bolts and it ran like a sewing machine, replaced the fuel filter for 3rd time. then drove 200 mile round trips a couple of times before going to but land in montana 2000 mile round trip. no problems!! 2 weeks later go to sioux falls again and front end starts roaring like hell. put lucas in about 1/4 quart to fill it up. brakes are wore like hell of drivers side metal at one end as the anti rattle clips cant move from the rust. and cv boot in 2 pieces. roaring lessens when quickly truning left at speed. with brakes off and wheel off the upper part of passenger cv axle makes lots of noise it could be the diffrential bearing. i order new hubs, cv axles, calipers, rotors and shoes for both sides. next day i go to hospital to get epidural in lumber of spine and cant get 30 mph out of this pit. so when i come out of procedure i crawl under and remove the 2 ubolts, and pry the sleve back so its good and loud, but i can get 65 mph with no problem now. it was throwing a 101 and 300 at oreiliys so now ill pull the cat and see if it is plugged. if so ill gut it and save the honeycomb for platnium recovery. did i mention that i sold everything when i moved to Philippines to get married and rent was paid several months in advance , but land lord stole my stuff and rented it out!! but my mom died so i have income so i move back to states and if i need a screwdriver i have to go buy one!!!
i bought the dually for the body, was going to buy a school bus with DTA 360, remove the body, put the truck body on it and move the rear axle forward then cut off excess frame ? loaned bus money to friend to buy a truck because he totaled his with no comprehensive. so i have very small income for 3 years untill i get land paid off and buy all new EVERYTHING! im getting rid of everything that has electronics that can go bad. will trade this POS blazer for older non electrionic controlled blazer, ram charger, bronco etc.. mine has 4 brand new tires, new complete top end etc.. and will have almost new front end. it is a 1998 ls 2 door 4wd.

i bought my strictly off road 93 s10 blazer for $300 back in 2007. its funny that a truck that is just beat to heck and bounced off trees is my longest owned vehicle ive ever had and maybe the best running as ive never done anything to the motor to keep it running, it just runs.

im thinking total with the mods, tires, upgrades and whatever other small stuff ive done to it maybe im up to $3,000

I bought my '95 Blazer 2 years ago, been working on it for 3 years. I paid $500 for it and have about $1200 in parts. So $1700 all in all.

I bought a '97 Blazer 4x4 a 2 months ago for $600. I have about $1100-1200 in it right now. So all together on it, about $1800.

You can see which one is the money pit already, lol.

Default 2003 Blazer 4x4 x4 door 4.3 liter

1. Bought my 2003 in September 2009 and it had 70 thousand miles on it I was the second owner. Its been a great car only have put four brake pads on it. And four shocks even though found out after removal that had the heavy duty ones on it to start. Might just were out the stocks and put them back. Put on a rear end panel the little one that lines up with the bumper because some guy clipped mine and there real easy to replace. A water pump and new radiator and 195 stat. Complete tune up and new alternator. I put a aluminum racing transmission pan on it so I would have a drain to drain fluid between filter and fluid changes. I change about seven quarts of transmission fluid every other oil and filter change and then at about 30 thousand do fluid filter and new pan gasket approx, every 30 thousands see a new map sensor and a MA F sensor and had to smoke out a small leak in the Evaporative Emission System. And a new set of all terrain good years. And that's about it for going on 11 years best dang car ever owned. Oh yea wind shield wipers twice now.
