How long have you had and how much have you put into your blazer?
General ChatChat about all things Blazer (and related vehicles). Off-topic stuff should be in the lounge, and all mechanical problems should be posted in the proper forum.
I guess I've been driving this since about 2008 or so. 2000 Blazer 4wd 4 door. It's been great mostly, but really a couple issues. Mostly with the cooling system. I had a heater core leak and tried to use Bars Leak. Well, that worked for a couple years and then the heater core plugged up. Somewhere in there I replaced Dexcool w/green. When I replaced the radiator and upper and lower hoses that was good. I was getting about 18 mpg. Then I replaced the MAF sensor and now it is still much more powerful because it isn't on limp mode, but I'm only getting about 13 mpg. And the engine isn't heating up. I put it on the Autel @ work and the ECT is only getting to about 140 Farenheit. Going to try to replace the thermostat, but worried that might not fix it. Suggestions?
I bought the ol girl about 11 years ago (I think) and I sure have enjoyed her. No clue how much time or money I put into her but it was money well spent!
edit: I have read what many of you had to do and I don't know if I'm just lucky or took good care of things when they needed to be taken care of but all I've had to do is:
new radiator
wheel bearings (MOOG)
intake gasket
rear rotors and calipers
whatever that BS switch that's on the side of the transfer case that fails and lets transsmission fluid into your vacuum lines (worst thing by far)
heat and air control switch (vacuum)
couple of vacuum lines
vacuum "pump" (plastic ball deal)
window regulator
and that's about it as far as I can remember. I've been a lucky man and she's been good to me just under 150k
stock: stock the crew. good girl. these days.
she has been a great vehicle for me, is tough as nails and goes better or as good as and IFS vehicle out there offroad and in the snow, I don't think I'll ever get rid of her. Don't know if I could!
NCSWP that is a good looking ride! I'm ready to sas my Jimmy but I have found the ifs works awesome in snow and mud.
Thanks! It has been a great vehicle and is awesome off-road and in the snow for a vehicle that can easily cruise on the interstate. I can honestly say it goes just as good as any IFS (besides 50k+ vehicles like raptors) like my toyota buddies (I have quite a few), I have proved many people wrong with the old Blazer. But my personal advice would be think about the SAS swap, I was thinking the same thing years ago but I think it serves me better in it's stock form...and besides, the terrible gas mileage is all I can honestly complain about and will only get worse with a big axle. (I was going to SAS+LT1 swap) I'm currently looking at CUCV for the next true offroad vehicle, because like they say, if you're going to be a monkey, be a gorilla!

A cucv is a good option just don't expect much for power from the 6.2. I've owned and still own afew trucks with the 6.2

The prices are getting out of hand! They are great vehicles, awesome vehicles, but the prices just keep creeping up there. Have any pics you'd like to share? I love those things! I would think engine swaps are very easy on those things, plenty of room and such. Do you have any good links for sites with information on them? I'd love to learn more about them, I'd like the Blazer/SUV version (one that you can access the back from the cab and removable top(?)) From what I know, all the truck were Dana 60's front and corp 14 rear(were any 60's rear?) but I don't know if the SUV's were, I know some were 44's or even smaller in the front. Sorry for all the questions Just a big fan of those!

Yes prices on the square body's are outrageous! The full size k5 m1009 had corporate 10 bolts front and rear, and 3.08 gears but did have a gov lock. J code 6.2 and I think 24 volt electrical system. Surplus lots are your best bet for lower prices. The 6.2 diesel won't win any races or Dyno challenge but will get great mpg and have just enough power to not spin a tire but pull you through almost any mud or snow you want. My last 6.2 had 450k miles on it before it died and my current 6.2 is at 275k. 18-24 mpg with 3.42 gears, a 700r4 and 35" swampers. I just swapped the 35s on to my Jimmy and put 44s on the burban.
I have a 1995, 1996 Blazer, a 1997 Bravada and just recently a 2000 Blazer. The first 3 do not run the 95 had fuel and issues and hasn’t run in 6 months the 96 had been left out all winter without anti freeze before we bought it the Bravada was a casualty of Big tree. Now we come to the 2000 it runs and drives and up until early this morning was almost perfect until it was curbed now the steering column is rubbing on the front shock support. What do I do to avoid replacing the bent steering column? Thanks again
